Stephanie Bogue Kerr

Social Worker

  • As a social worker and a creative arts therapist,

I have focused on the relationship between the body and mental health.

This has involved working with individuals, couples and families facing life-changing and life-threatening illness.

It has also involved finding creative ways of working with movement and play-based therapeutic approaches.

  • As a culturally-sensitive professional,

I have worked with families from different cultural backgrounds than my own.

They have taught me about how differently people see and experience the world.

  • As a former elementary school teacher,

I understand childhood development and the challenges children face at school.

  • As a former high school guidance counsellor,

I have experience working with adolescents and their parents as they navigate developmental and life transitions.

  • As a researcher,

I am interested in illness experiences and exercise-based approaches to therapy.

  • Fluently bilingual,

I offer services in both English and French.

Moments of transition bring uncertainty. They can be destabilizing, but they can also be times of movement and growth.

I work primarily with individuals facing the uncertainties of life transitions and of illness (acute and chronic), as well as with those living with anxiety and depression.

As a therapist and as a researcher, I am interested in how we experience and relate to our bodies. This has meant:

  • Working with individuals, couples and families facing life threatening illness.

  • Attending to how the body feels during emotional and stressful times.

  • Applying movement-based drama therapy methods with children and adolescents living with anxiety, selective mutism and oppositional defiant disorders.

  • Applying movement and play-based therapy methods in family therapy.

  • Integrating exercise into my psychotherapy practice and my research on mental health.
